History
June 2016
Ashburton District Council and Environment Canterbuy were consulted for permission to develop the site adjacent to the MTB Loop. The land used to be a BMX track developed by the Mid Canterbury Extreme Cycling Club in 1999 but had become overgrown and unused. A funding application was made to The Lion Foundation. |
October 2016
After permission and funding had been confirmed, work started on removing the vegetation and rubbish covering the site. Tonnes of materiel was brought in and used to create a new surface that was more workable. |
March 2017
D&E Track and Trail started work on creating our main jump line and pump track. |
May 2017
Fencing is installed around the boundary and the MTB Loop was extended to go right around the Skills Park and join back onto itself, right in time for the 6 Hour Race. |
October 2017
After a wet winter stalling progress, D&E Track and Trail returned to finish the jump and pump tracks by capping them with lime. |
November 2017
The Skills Park is unofficially opened and the club started using it for Women's Skills Sessions, the main entrance and start for Chocolate Fish Races. |
July 2018
Funding from the Ashburton District Council allows development to start on wooden features, car park upgrades, picnic tables and a beginner pump track. July 2020
Funding from the Ashburton District Council goes towards construction of new beginner bridges, signs, an entrance way and more native plants. |
February 2019
Another funding grant from The Lion Foundation was received for $43,000. This funded a bike wash, lighting, native plants, track improvements, cycling structures and water fountains. |
